[That's all she says, and it's more a surprised noise than anything else. As the barrier surrounds them, she looks around with a frown, but he'll almost immediately be experiencing something unpleasant, to say the least.]
[It's unpleasant, but not shocking, not to him. Familiar, really. His mother never died like that, she had a convenient "heart attack", but that awful swooping feeling, that terrified horror so unique to finding a parent dead--
Yeah. He knows that.
His own memory in return is lighter than that, thankfully. A wedding, with a bride who looks like she's going to cry she's so happy and a groom who still looks stunned. With a woman next to him that he keeps glancing over towards, though she's paying attention to the ceremony and not him. And then dancing, fiddles teasing out tunes from better days in District 12, children and adults both dancing in familiar patterns. He doesn't dance, he can't, but that's all right. Just being here is worth it.]
[The first thing she thinks when it's over is... It's nice. The music, the way everyone seemed, and - really, just knowing that not everything he's experienced is as horrible as what he explained to her recently.
Still, that doesn't take away from how unexpected it is to suddenly experience a moment from somebody else's life. She shakes her head as if to clear it, blinking.]
[She tries to think of something to say in response to that, and while there are a hundred things she could say about that day... She stalls on all of them, looking from him to the ground and taking a breath. After a few moments:]
[He knows what he is. Alcohol can be just as destructive as drugs, but he's never fooled himself that what he's doing is in any way right. Just a shitty coping method in a place with no other options.]
[Those three words tell a story all on their own, but even so, she continues after a few tense moments.]
We thought he was done for good. You know, new lease on life after unexpectedly surviving, but... Turns out things don't always go that cleanly. Lesson learned.
