[Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, shoe size, hand size, bra size, and other such incriminating facts . . . . and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where the bar is.

That's sure where Haymitch is, contemplating the virtues of whiskey over scotch.]

Can I get you something, darling?

[Is that mocking or genuine? Who can say.]

[uncurtained]

[She can't quite tell whether it's sincere or not, but she's at least giving him the benefit of the doubt as she enters and looks over the selection.]

You don't have to play bartender. I'll make my own.

[But she's curious, so—]

What are you picking?

[oraculi]

[That's certainly a question, if the way he peers down at the glass (slightly theatrically) is any indication.]

Pretty sure it's whiskey.

[Probably.]

C'mon. Make your pick.

[uncurtained]

[After a few moments:]

I'm in a tequila mood tonight, I guess.

[oraculi]

There you go.

[He gives her something way too big to be a shot, and even adds a shaker of salt as a bonus. No lime, though. We drink like alcoholics in this house.]

So. You wanna talk about the trial, miss, or you just here to enjoy the refreshments?

[uncurtained]

I actually... wanted to see how you were.

[She's guessing the answer is Not Great, considering he was already drunk during the trial... But, anyways.]

You can just call me Beck.

[oraculi]

Me? I'm doing just fine.

[He shrugs.]

I've gone through shit like that before and worse. Just didn't expect it so soon. Or so . . . similar, I guess.

[uncurtained]

Similar?

[She sounds curious, but she doesn't want to push. She takes a sip of the tequila.]

[oraculi]

[He watches her for a long few seconds, his expression searching. And then, suddenly, he winks. It's a startlingly amused gesture from someone so obviously out of it.]

How bout we get to know each other a little before I answer that.

[It's a redirection so obvious as to be laughable, but he doesn't care.]

[uncurtained]

[She can't claim he's getting any points for subtlety, but she does give a nod, letting whatever that was go. The wink, at least, prompts a smile.]

You got it. I owe you one for the faux margarita, anyways.

[oraculi]

You don't owe me a damn thing.

[Just saying, but not with any heat. He grabs his drink and sprawls in a chair, looking up at her through his bangs.]

So what is it you do when you're not solving murders and getting pressured into casual sex?

[uncurtained]

Well... I'm studying to be a writer, and I teach yoga on the side.

[She tilts her head slightly as she continues.]

How about you?

[oraculi]

[There's a few seconds where he's clearly struggling to decide how he wants to respond, but then:]

I raise geese.

[Which is true, actually, even if the way he drawls it out makes it sound like a joke.]

What kinda writer?

[uncurtained]

[The look she gives him says that she absolutely thinks it's a joke, but she doesn't mind too much. She gets the idea he'd rather not talk about himself too much.]

Poetry, mostly. Some short stories... But I want to write a novel sometime soon.

[oraculi]

[His next item from home is a bunch of geese and then she'll realize . . . then she'll know . . .]

About what?

Guess you're getting a lot of material around here.

week two, saturday.

[uncurtained]

[She's in the kitchen when she sees him. There's a momentary pause, but then she heads in, raising her hand in greeting.]

Looking for something?

[oraculi]

I'll give you one guess.

[But there's nothing in the cabinet, and he sighs heavily as he turns to face her properly.]

Pretty dicey in there for you for a bit, huh?

[uncurtained]

There's always the lounge, right?

[She gives a shrug.]

Honestly, I was pretty freaked out when I woke up, but... Like I said during the trial, it was kind of a relief that it wasn't just me. It might have been worse if it were.

[oraculi]

[OH HE CLEANED A LOT OF THAT OUT ALREADY, he's just. Very leery of his supply running short.]

You ever figure out where they came from?

[uncurtained]

[She exhales, shrugging lightly.]

I mean, as long as the answer isn't that all three of us were possessed by demons, I'll take it.

[oraculi]

Yeah? That's not much of an answer.

[For him or her.]

[uncurtained]

Yeah.

[She frowns.]

I'm going to ask Carlos about it, but... You know how much they can't answer. I guess I'm just not holding my breath on finding out immediately, you know?

[oraculi]

Yeah.

[But that makes it slightly creepier, in his opinion. Most things are over within the week. To have that mystery unsolved . . .]

Maybe you should change around where you sleep.

[uncurtained]

[She thinks about it for a second, then shakes her head.]

I like my roommate. [Even if he's a gremlin.] I could ask him if we could move into one of the empty rooms, but that definitely seems weirder.

[Sleeping somewhere a dead person used to be staying, and all.]

Weirder than being beat up and not remembering it? I'm just saying, maybe somebody has it out for you. It might not hurt to try and stay a step ahead.
